ECHOES IN BETWEEN

Echoes In Between” – Remembering July 27, 1986 | Shaheed Diwas

This commemorative event brought together people through an evening of poetry, talks, and reflections focused on grief, memory, and the ongoing search for closure. Held in remembrance of those lost in the 1986 firing, it created space to mourn the tragedy, name the wounds left behind, and honour the lives affected. Through shared silences and spoken word, the gathering acknowledged the deep impact of the event and the echoes it continues to leave behind.

27th July, 1986- As rightly observed by @chudenkabimo Chuden Kabimo, ‘If we focus on just the number then it just becomes a date’.

While 27th July holds a significant place in our political history, over time it has come to be reduced to a mere political gimmick- theatrics and ritualistic homage.

‘Echoes in Between’ - a collaborative effort between @kalimpongreads Kalimpong Reads and The Confluence Collective brought together poets, writers and storytellers to commemorate the sacrifices of individuals and families for the Homeland Movement. It allowed for us to pause, reflect, take accountability and hold space for collective healing.

We are grateful to @hillstale Hillstale- for offering this space. We congratulate and appreciate our young participants for boldly sharing your poems and contributing to making this event a success Anuragh Chettri Pranavi Saanvi Rai @surabhi07z Sanjana Rai @medhhaaaa  @manish.__.rai @26sachita
