The Practitioners Circle & Proposal Writing Session held on 26th September in CafeKalimpong, Kalimpong, West Bengal brought together a vibrant group of local artists and creative practitioners working across disciplines. This engaging and insightful session was part of the outreach efforts for The Himalayan Fellowship for Creative Practitioners, an initiative by the Foundation for Indian Contemporary Art (FICA) @indiaifa in partnership with @royalenfieldsocialmission Royal Enfield’s Social Mission.
The session was conducted by @marytherese.k Mary Therese Kurkalang, a Cultural Curator and Researcher based between Delhi and Shillong. As the Lead Consultant for the Himalayan Fellowship programme since its inception, Mary provided an in-depth introduction to the goals and structure of the fellowship. She also conducted a focused overview on proposal writing, contextualized within the aims of the Fellowship particularly for those working at the intersection of ecology and cultural knowledge.Participants included local artists and practitioners from diverse fields who actively engaged in discussions, sharing their challenges, ideas, and experiences. The open forum allowed for meaningful dialogue, helping attendees better understand the support structures available through the Fellowship and how they could align their practices with the broader themes of the programme.
The session also served as a platform to introduce the Himalayan Fellowship for Creative Practitioners, a year-long programme that offers selected creative practitioners the opportunity to develop projects through funding, mentorship, workshops, public programming, and access to an exhibition platform. The Fellowship is open to individuals based in the Western and Eastern Himalayan regions, including Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, North Bengal, and the eight Northeastern states.Through this session, FICA and Royal Enfield aimed to strengthen the local creative ecosystem, encourage interdisciplinary practices, and promote projects rooted in both ecological awareness and cultural knowledge.
