As part of World Photography Week, The Confluence Collective (TCC) invites you to a special conversation with Mr. Sonam Gyamtso Tashi and Mr. Tsegyal Tashi sons of the late Tse Ten Tashi, a pioneering photographer, civil servant, and documentarian whose work offers a rare, intimate visual record of life in Sikkim and Bhutan during the 20th century.
Widely known as Rhenock Yap Maila or simply TTT, Tse Ten Tashi was the first to establish a photography studio in Sikkim Tse Ten Tashi & Co. which later expanded to Kalimpong. Though he served as Court Photographer to both the Chogyal of Sikkim and the Druk Gyalpo of Bhutan, his archive extends far beyond royal portraits. It captures the lives of everyday people, the rhythms of village life, landscapes, local rituals, and cultural traditions with rare empathy and insight.
